About Us
TDC is a group of folks and their dogs in the Brainerd Lakes Area of Minnesota working together to bring joy to our client’s lives. We train together and work together to provide a quality Therapy Dog experience for our local health care facilities and schools. Some of our members also make home visits to shut-ins which is especially important during our long winter season.
Our teams (dog and handler) work in local elementary schools, high schools, hospitals and care centers. Depending upon the handler’s schedule, our clients can expect a visit once a week or so. Our specialty is making our clients day by sharing our trained pets with them. We think Therapy Dogs are special and hope that you will, too.
What is a Therapy Dog Team?
Therapy Dogs are trained and tested dogs who partner with their handler to make visits to people in health care facilities, care centers and shut-ins. Most therapy dog teams visit people just to cheer them up.
Handlers bring their dogs into facilities and ask residents or patients if they would like a visit from their team. Since some people either don’t like dogs or are fearful of them, the teams only visit people who say “yes”, when asked.
Our experience is that the dogs open up an avenue of conversation that is beneficial for residents/-patients and gives them an opportunity to reminisce and just visit about something other than their condition.
